The “Az Infinitum” is an Indexation and Referencing System focused on azulejos [glazed tiles] either produced or applied in Portugal. The project aims to gather data and documentation related to the main parameters of Art History research, namely authors, dates or iconography. Its research-oriented methodology organises and interconnects the available data in an innovative way, allowing users and researchers to view it from various angles, to ask different questions and to think in different modes. “Az Infinitum” is a digital project, incorporating the most recent innovations introduced by the field of Digital Art History. The systematisation of knowledge it proposes will provide, in the near future, a renewed perspective on the history of Portuguese azulejos.

The researchers have grants financed by FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia), the Portuguese national funding agency for science, research and technology.
